The City at Night

The City at Night

Saturday 02 December
The District - 8pm - 2 Hours
Many people don't think about nighttime being a good time to do photography since there's a lack of light. However, armed with knowledge about your camera's settings and the properties of light, nighttime photography can be a lot of fun.

In this meetup, you'll learn about the best camera settings for nighttime photography. We'll also explore the kinds of light available to us and how to use that light to make some awesome photos. As always, there are exercises that will help you put your new knowledge to work.

Architecture Photography

Architecture Photography

Saturday 06 January
Midtown - 9am - 2 Hours
Architectural photography can be a great way of exploring and documenting a city, whether it's your home or on holiday. Its about capturing not only the design and accurate representation of a building, but to have the shots be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer's eye. An architectural photographer makes pictures, not takes pictures.

In this session, we will be covering how to better understand Architecture photography and we'll be looking at ways to take some impressive shots and the camera settings to use.

Nature Photography Meetup

Nature Photography Meetup

Saturday 24 February
Otter Creek Road, Oak Hill - 9am - 2 Hours
Join this session for tips on how to use your camera settings to creatively capture nature in a visually interesting way. We will be looking at composition, focus, and colour.

Many professional offices and places of business have large prints gracing their wall space of things such as fields of flowers, a butterfly perched on a leaf, and a single dew drop on a rose petal. These beautiful images are all around us in nature. It just takes that special "eye" to not only see it but to capture it in a way that will turn that simple little piece of nature into a beautiful piece of art. We will learn how to use different angles, light and shadows, and settings to make subjects pop.

This was my first event and I really enjoyed it. Nate was great at explaining and providing direction to open a creative perspective. When I asked questions he answered in a way that was I could follow and understand. I definitely recommend Nashville photography society and the classes they offer. It's a great way to listen and learn from others while furthering your own knowledge be it beginner or advanced. I will definitely take another in the very near future.

Nathan is very knowledgeable and calm and patient with his teaching ... he came up with good examples to explain the various concepts we were learning. Everyone got individual attention and he was willing to answer any of your questions thoroughly and to your satisfaction. Highly recommend this class!

    Nathan Marsland
Nathan was born in North Carolina, had grown up in Mississippi, and now currently lives in Nashville. He’s always been passionate about storytelling, and photography has always been one of his favorite mediums of telling tales, most notably through using film and hand developing his negatives as a way to add a more human element to his work. Nathan is primarily influenced through street photography, mostly through the works of Vivian Maier and Jim Marshall. As well as by Ansel Adams’ landscapes, and Hiroshi Sugimoto’s long exposure seascapes.

This was shot on the DJI Air 2S drone. I have been waiting to capture a shot like this for years but never had the equipment until now. Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons because of the changing leaves. This was edited using Lightroom.

Taken with Nikon D7500 with 300mm Nikkor lens. Two male Kingfishers possibly adult male and offspring sitting low by the River Crane. Light was low so had to use a high ISO. Because of this the image had to be denoised . It was then cropped and clarity and texture added in Lightroom. I have a nice triptych of them sitting in three different poses.

The storm was getting closer & we all thought we would get wet, but just before it hit, it threw out a quick burst of colour. Sometimes it?s all about timing. iPhone 12 Pro Max & Snapseed.
